Advanced Features Camera Recording Manual Focus Available modes: TAPE-CAMERA, CARD-CAMERA Auto Focus may not be able to focus on the subject in the situations shown below. In such situations, set the camcorder to Manual Focus mode and focus manually. Subject is too dark. Lack of contrast, e.g. snow scene. 1 In TAPE-CAMERA or CARD-CAMERA mode, press the MANUAL button until the focus setting screen appears. AUTO MAN. FOCUS AUTO 2 Adjust the Power Zoom control to frame the subject as you desire. 3 Press m or l to focus on the subject. m: To focus on a more distant subject l: To focus on a closer subject Fast-moving subject. Background is too bright. MF MAN. FOCUS MAN U A L 4 Press the MANUAL button until the normal screen appears. • "MF" appears. Subject has horizontal stripes. Subject is being shot through a dirty or wet window. Light reflects off the subject. Two subjects at different distances overlap in the same scene. MF 3 0 min Manual focus indicator To return to Auto Focus mode Press the SET button while the focus setting screen is displayed. Subject has fine, repeated patterns. Subjects at different distances appear in the center of the scene at the same time. Fast-speed shutter being used under fluorescent lighting. Notes: • The camcorder may not be able to focus correctly if the subject is closer than approximately 5 feet (1.5 m). Set the zoom control to wide angle, and try refocusing again. • If the lens is dirty or fogged, the camcorder may not be able to focus correctly. • When "MF" is displayed, you can manually adjust the focus by pressing l or m, even if the focus setting screen is not displayed.
