Changing the menu settings Menu items are displayed as the following icons: MANUAL SET CAMERA SET VCR SET LCD/VF SET MEMORY SET CM SET TAPE SET SETUP MENU OTHERS Customizing Your Camcorder Selecting the mode setting of each item z is the default setting. Menu items differ depending on the position of the POWER switch. The LCD screen and the viewfinder shows only the items you can operate at the moment. POWER Icon/item Mode Meaning switch PROGRAM AE -- To suit your specific shooting requirement (p. 42) CAMERA MEMORY P EFFECT -- To add special effects like those in films or on the TV to images (p. 38). CAMERA VCR WHT BAL -- To adjust the white balance (p. 34). CAMERA MEMORY AUTO SHTR z ON To automatically activate the electronic shutter CAMERA when shooting in bright conditions. OFF To not automatically activate the electronic shutter even when shooting in bright conditions. D ZOOM z OFF To deactivate the digital zoom. Up to 10× zoom CAMERA is carried out. 20× To activate the digital zoom. More than 10× to 20× zoom is performed digitally (p. 19). 120× To activate the digital zoom. More than 10× to 120× zoom is performed digitally (p. 19). 16:9WIDE z OFF - CAMERA ON To record a 16:9 wide picture (p. 35). STEADYSHOT z ON To compensate for camera-shake. CAMERA OFF To cancel the SteadyShot function. Natural pictures are produced when shooting a stationary object with a tripod. N.S. LIGHT z ON OFF To use the NightShot Light function (p. 21). To cancel the NightShot Light function. CAMERA MEMORY FLASH LVL HIGH z NORMAL Makes the flash level higher than normal. Normal setting. CAMERA MEMORY LOW Makes the flash level lower than normal. Notes on the SteadyShot function • The SteadyShot function will not correct excessive camera-shake. • Attachment of a conversion lens (not supplied) may influence the SteadyShot function. If you cancel the SteadyShot function The SteadyShot off indicator appears. Your camcorder prevents excessive compensation for camera-shake. When using an external flash (not supplied) You cannot adjust FLASH LVL if the external flash (not supplied) is not compartible with the flash level. 85
