b Note Depending on the size of the recording being made, the actual interval may vary from the interval selected in [Auto Chapter]. When recording in ULP mode, the interval is set to 10-minutes. The selected interval should only be used as an approximation to create chapters. [Set-Top Box Control] Turns on the cable box/satellite receiver control function. [ Off ] [ On ] Select this if you do not use the supplied set top box controller. Select this when you use the supplied set top box controller. Select [Edit] and make necessary settings. For details, see "Setting up the cable box/satellite receiver control" (page 19). [Set-Top Box Edit] When [Set-Top Box Control] is set to [On], you can change the following settings. See page 19 for details. [Device Type]: Selects the type of cable box/ satellite receiver. [Brand]: Selects the brand name of your cable box/satellite receiver. [Number of Digits]: Selects the number of digits for your cable box/satellite receiver's channel. [ENTER key]: Selects whether you need to press the ENTER button after entering the channel number. [Key Speed]: Selects the key speed to send commands to the cable box/satellite receiver. [Test]: Checks that the control works correctly. Disc Settings The [Disc] setup contains disc-related items such as disc protection and labeling. Select [Disc] in the Setup Display. To use the display, see "Using the Setup Displays" (page 62). The default settings are underlined. Format DVD Finalize Input Disc Name Protect Disc PBC Start [Format DVD] You can manually re-format a DVD+RW or DVD-RW disc to make a blank disc. See page 26 for details. [Finalize] "Finalizing" makes discs playable on other DVD equipment. See page 33 for details. [Input Disc Name] Name or rename the recorded discs to make them discernible on the display (page 31). [Protect Disc] Protects disc recording against erasure and alteration (page 33). [PBC] (Playback Control) Turns the PBC function on or off when playing VIDEO CDs. [ Off ] [ On ] The PBC function is not activated. VIDEO CDs with PBC will be played the same way as audio CDs. The PBC function is activated when playing VIDEO CDs with PBC. 68

[Set-Top Box Control]
Turns on the cable box/satellite receiver control

[Set-Top Box Edit]
When [Set-Top Box Control] is set to [On], you
can change the following settings. See page 19 for
details.
[Device Type]: Selects the type of cable box/
satellite receiver.
[Brand]: Selects the brand name of your cable
box/satellite receiver.
[Number of Digits]: Selects the number of digits
for your cable box/satellite receiver’s channel.
[ENTER key]: Selects whether you need to press
the ENTER button after entering the channel

Disc Settings
The [Disc] setup contains disc-related items such
as disc protection and labeling.

[Disc] in the Setup Display. To use the
display, see “Using the Setup Displays” (page 62).

[Format DVD]
You can manually re-format a DVD+RW or
DVD-RW disc to make a blank disc. See page 26
for details.
[Finalize]
“Finalizing” makes discs playable on other DVD
equipment. See page 33 for details.
[Input Disc Name]
Name or rename the recorded discs to make them
discernible on the display (page 31).
[Protect Disc]
Protects disc recording against erasure and
alteration (page 33).
[PBC] (Playback Control)
Turns the PBC function on or off when playing
VIDEO CDs.
