• enable secret stores the password in the running/startup configuration by using a stronger, MD5 encryption method. Dell Networking recommends using the enable secret password. • Create a password to access EXEC Privilege mode. CONFIGURATION mode Dell(conf)# enable [password | secret] [level level] [encryption-type] password - level is the privilege level and is not required. The default is 15. - encryption-type specifies how a password is entered and is not required. The default is 0, which allows you enter the password as clear text. (Other valid values allow you to enter an encrypted password using a DES or MD5 hash.) Configuring a Host Name The host name appears in the prompt. The default host name is Dell. Host names can start with a letter or number, end with a letter or number, and have characters, letters, digits, and hyphens in the string. • Create a new host name. CONFIGURATION mode Dell(conf)# hostname name Connecting the Switch to the Network After you configure a host name and enable password, connect to a network through the 10/100/1000 Base-T RJ-45 management port on the master RPM for remote management.
