2.3.2 2.4 Compaq Restore CD The Compaq Restore CD offers easy deployment and recovery of the system software. Along with the Microsoft operating system CD, the Compaq Restore CD enables the user to selectively restore the original system software. This can be extremely helpful in the event of hard drive failure or corruption. The Compaq Restore CD is specific to each desktop model and accompanies many desktop models along with the Microsoft operating system CD. Unique Universal Identification (UUID) This feature is available on all 1999 and later model computers. Each computer has a randomly generated 32-digit identification that may be used for asset management purposes. The random number is generated during the pretest process in the Compaq factory, is flashed onto the ROM, and is then printed on the shipping label. Users and service providers may turn off the UUID number by following these instructions: 1. Turn on or restart the computer. In Windows, click Start Æ Shut Down Æ Restart the Computer. 2. When the F10=Setup message appears in the lower-right corner of the screen, press the F10 key. ✎ If you do not press the F10 key while the message is displayed, you must turn off the computer, then on again, to access the utility. 3. Select the language from the list and press Enter. A choice of five headings appears in the Computer Setup Utilities menu: File, Storage, Security, Power, and Advanced. 4.
