6-7-2 Sender logging RGS Sender logging is not controlled by a GUI-instead, Sender logging is controlled by a particular file on the RGS Sender. In Section 3-1-2, "Installing the Sender on Windows," the following command line option for Rgsender.exe is described: -l logSetupFile-Specifies the "logSetupFile" file used to describe various logging parameters for Sender error and informational output. This file is used to determine where the output goes (to a file or to standard error) as well as the type of output logged (INFO or DEBUG). At installation, the Sender default is with "-l logSetup" turned on, where the logSetup file in the installation directory is set for output to a file named rg.log at INFO debug level. Unless this command line option is used to change the logSetupFile file, the default logSetup file in the Sender installation folder (C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Remote Graphics Sender) is used. The first few lines of logSetup are shown in Figure 6-33. Figure 6-33 logSetup file The highlighted, uncommented line specifies that INFO-level logging is used, and that logging will occur only to the rg.log file (no STDOUT logging). If another logging level is required, edit the file to replace INFO with any of the following: DEBUG, WARN, ERROR, or FATAL. If STDOUT logging is required, or if both STDOUT and rg.log logging are required, uncomment out the appropriate line (and comment out the previously-uncommented line). NOTE: The logSetup file is set to read-only during Sender installation, so you'll need to uncheck the Readonly property to edit the file. NOTE: In order to log Remote Clipboard activities on the Sender, DEBUG-level logging (not the default INFOlevel logging) must be specified in the logSetup file. Advanced capabilities 132
