Floating licenses require a license server, which can be installed on one of the computers running the RGS Sender, or the license server can be installed on a separate computer. The RGS product includes a setup.exe file that installs the license server-see the HP Remote Graphics Software Licensing Guide, available at www.hp.com/support/rgs_manuals, for further details. 2. Node-locked licenses-With node-locked licenses, RGS connections are permitted only on machines whose MAC (Media Access Control) address is contained in the license file. RGS supports three options for MAC address license files: • The license file can contain a single MAC address of the particular RGS Sender computer being licensed. In this case, the license file must be installed on that particular RGS Sender computer. • The license file can contain multiple MAC addresses, representing multiple RGS Sender computers that implement node-locked licensing. This license file is installed on all computers that have their MAC addresses in the license file. • The multiple MAC addresses license file can also be installed on another computer that is accessible by each Remote Computer. In this case, the FLEXnet license server must be running on the computer where the multiple MAC address license file is installed. IMPORTANT: Prior to installing the RGS Sender license, you can still establish a connection from the Local Computer to the Remote Computer, and can interact with the Remote Computer desktop. However, in the absence of a license, the dialog shown in Figure 2-3 will be generated by the Remote Computer, and displayed in the window on the Local Computer that is showing the Remote Computer desktop. Figure 2-3 Dialog generated when the RGS Sender is unlicensed This dialog cannot be moved or closed. Once the RGS Sender is licensed, the above dialog will no longer be displayed. 2-4 RGS products Prior to RGS 5.2.0, HP offered two versions of the RGS Sender: • A PC Version, targeted at the commercial desktop PC usage model • A Workstation Version, targeted at the high performance workstation usage model Beginning with RGS 5.2.0, the PC and Workstation Versions have been discontinued, and HP began offering these RGS products: 1. HP RGS Desktop-This RGS product runs only on HP desktop PCs, notebooks and workstations. Floating licenses require a license server, which can be installed on one of the computers running the RGS
Sender, or the license server can be installed on a separate computer. The RGS product includes a
setup.exe
file that installs the license server—see the
HP Remote Graphics Software Licensing Guide

, for further details.
2.
Node-locked licenses
—With node-locked licenses, RGS connections are permitted only on machines whose
MAC (Media Access Control) address is contained in the license file. RGS supports three options for MAC
address license files:
The license file can contain a single MAC address of the particular RGS Sender computer being
licensed. In this case, the license file must be installed on that particular RGS Sender computer.
The license file can contain multiple MAC addresses, representing multiple RGS Sender computers that
implement node-locked licensing. This license file is installed on all computers that have their MAC
addresses in the license file.
The multiple MAC addresses license file can also be installed on another computer that is accessible by
each Remote Computer. In this case, the FLEXnet license server must be running on the computer where
the multiple MAC address license file is installed.
IMPORTANT:
Prior to installing the RGS Sender license, you can still establish a connection from the Local
Computer to the Remote Computer, and can interact with the Remote Computer desktop. However, in the
absence of a license, the dialog shown in Figure 2-3 will be generated by the Remote Computer, and
displayed in the window on the Local Computer that is showing the Remote Computer desktop.

This dialog cannot be moved or closed. Once the RGS Sender is licensed, the above dialog will no longer be
displayed.
