Scalability For details on supported scalability, see the HP StorageWorks SAN design reference guide, available on the HP website: http://www.hp.com FICON support The HP StorageWorks DC04 SAN Director is not supported for FICON Cascading in interopmode 2 or 3 for use in mixed fabrics with M-EOS platforms. NOTE: For information about specific versions of Fabric OS support for FICON, see the B-series FICON Connectivity Stream. Other important notes and recommendations This section contains additional information that you should consider before you use this Fabric OS release. HP StorageWorks 8/40 SAN Switch power supply fault When two combination fan/power supply units are inserted into the HP StorageWorks 8/40 SAN Switch and one is not supplying power (that is, there is no AC connection or the power switch is turned off), the fan (still) receives power internally from the alternate fan/power supply. However, until external power is provided to the fan/power supply, Fabric OS will read ZERO for its fan tachometer. This situation leads to Fabric OS falsely reporting the fan/power supply as faulty, which could lead to unnecessary return of fan/power supply assemblies. This issue can be avoided by connecting the power cord to the fan/power supply and external power prior to seating it in the switch, then turning on the power switch immediately after insertion. A fix for this has been incorporated into Fabric OS versions 6.1.1b, 6.1.2, and 6.2.0 such that no faulty message will be returned. The new message that will be returned, after upgrading to one of these firmware versions, or later, is: HIL-1610 Fan/PS unit not supplying power, fan speeds not available. Please ensure that the unit has power and the switch is on. Virtual Fabrics • On VF-capable platforms, the VF feature must be enabled after upgrading to Fabric OS 6.2.x in order to utilize the related capabilities, including Logical Switches and Logical Fabrics. • When creating Logical Fabrics that include switches that are not VF-capable, it is possible to have two Logical Switches with different FIDs in the same fabric. Be sure to verify that the FIDs match for all switches in the same Logical Fabric. • The aptpolicy can be configured per logical switch. The Administrator Guide indicates it is a chassis-level setting. • In order to support non-disruptive Hot Code Load on an HP StorageWorks 8/40 SAN Switch with VF enabled, the total zoning DB size for the entire chassis should not exceed 1 MB. 22
