• slotnumber: For bladed systems only, specifies the slot number of the port to configure, followed by a slash (/). • portnumber: Specifies the number of the port to configure, relative to its slot for bladed systems. Use the switchShow command to list valid ports. • mode: Specifies the fill word for portnumber. This operand is required. Valid values are one of the following: 0 IDLE in Link Init and IDLE as fill word (default) 1 ARB(ff) in Link Init and ARB(ff) as fill word • Example: To set the fill word of a port to ARBFF-ARBFF: switch:admin> portcfgfillword 2/3, 1 For more information, see the portCfgShow command in the Fabric OS Command Reference Manual. • Behavior • Default mode: The only mode of operation in releases earlier than Fabric OS 6.1.2 was the IDLE implementation. FOS v6.2.0a and v6.2.0b defaulted to ARB/ARB for 8-Gb devices. With the introduction of FOS v6.2.0d, the new command defaulted to mode 0 (Idle) and enabled the user to configure the ARB configuration. • Existing Product: This change has no effect on current product configurations in the field. The mode is currently 0, and during a firmware upgrade the mode remains 0 and no devices are impacted. If a new device is added to the configuration that requires the ARB sequence, those ports can be configured at that time. Loading 6.2.0d or later does not automatically change the mode. In current configurations the mode has to be changed manually. This change does not affect 1G-b/2-Gb /4-Gb devices. Settings of 0 or 1 have no affect on these devices. It only affects devices that negotiate or are fixed to 8-Gb speeds. • Changing the mode after FOS v6.2.0d is installed: If you change the mode after installing Fabric OS 6.2.0d or later 6.2.0x release, the portCfgFillWord command changes the configuration parameter in accordance with the selected mode, and automatically disables/enables the port for which the command was invoked. Subsequent Link Initializations will default to the new mode setting. • Other scenarios: The portcfgfillword command has no effect on 1-Gb / 2-Gb /4-Gb devices but the mode is persistent. If a device attempts to negotiate or is fixed to 8-Gb, the configured mode will take effect. The persistent configuration is on a port-by-port basis (that is, if an 8-Gb device was connected to a 2-Gb or 4-Gb optic and that optic was replaced with an 8-Gb optic, the current behavior of the mode is activated.) Behavior
Default mode
