Installing, removable-media, drive

Page 36 highlights

v Only the optional diskette drive can be installed in bay 3. Other drives are not supported in bay 3. v You can install SATA hard disk drives in bays 4 and 5 only. v The integrated IDE controller in the server supports the connection of up to two IDE devices. v The electromagnetic interference (EMI) integrity and cooling of the server are protected by having all bays and PCI or PCI Express slots covered or occupied. When you install a drive or PCI adapter, save the EMC shield and filler panel from the bay, the PCI or PCI Express adapter slot cover in the event you later remove the option. v For a complete list of supported options for the server, see http://www.ibm.com/support/. Installing a removable-media drive in bay 2 or 3 To install a removable-media drive in bay 2 or 3, complete the following steps: 1. Read the safety information that begins on page v and "Installation guidelines" on page 16. 2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices, and disconnect the power cords and all external cables. 3. Remove the side cover (see "Removing the side cover" on page 18). 4. Remove the bezel (see "Removing the bezel" on page 19). 24 xSeries 100 Type 8486: User's Guide
