34 EN BASIC OPERATIONS ON DVD DECK Basic Recording ● Turn on the unit. ● Turn on the TV and select the AV mode. ● Slide the TV/CABLE/DBS/DVD switch to DVD. ATTENTION: It is not possible to record programs on a DVD-R disc which has already been finalized. DVD lamp DV/HDD/DVD SELECT I W CH +/- DVD recording lamp o REC R MODE CABLE/DBS TV DVD DVD 0-9 CH +/- ENTER I R W o REC MODE 1 Load a recordable disc. ● For details, refer to APlacing A DiscB (A pg. 10). 2 Press DV/HDD/DVD SELECT on the unit repeatedly or DVD on the remote control so that the DVD lamp lights up on the unit. 3 Press CH +/- or the number keys to select the channel you wish to record. 4 Press REC MODE repeatedly to select the recording mode, then press ENTER. ● Each time you press REC MODE, the recording mode changes as follows: XP N SP N LP NEP N FR (60-360*, 420, 480) N (Back to the beginning) * The value is selectable from 1 to 6 hours in 5-minute intervals by pressing D E repeatedly after selecting AFR60-FR360B. To change the value in 30-minute intervals, press and hold D E. ● For details on the recording mode, see the right column. 5 Press R on the unit to start recording. Or while holding R, press I on the remote control. ● The DVD recording lamp lights up on the unit. 6 Press R and W on the remote control simultaneously to pause recording. ● To resume recording, press R and I simultaneously. 7 Press o twice to stop recording. ● It takes about 10 seconds to end the writing session when you stop recording. NOTES: ● When switching from the HDD to the DVD deck, or when the unit is turned on while a playback only disc is loaded, the DVD deck enters into resume stop mode automatically and the TV screen becomes all blue. To display the EE* signal on the screen, press o. * EE means Electronics to Electronics, no mechanical movement is involved. EE signal means a program received with the unit's tuner or the AV input signals. ● It is recommended to format a DVD-RAM disc before use if you use the disc on this unit for the first time. ● When using a brand-new DVD-RW disc, format the disc either in VR mode or in Video mode. (A pg. 74) ● Recordings made on DVD-R/RW disc must be finalized to play back on other DVD players. Perform AFinalize A Disc (DVD Deck Only)B (A pg. 75). ● You can record up to 99 programs and 99 play lists on each disc. ● Some programs can only be recorded one time. ● When recording is started, an index of the first part of recording is automatically recorded (A pg. 50). To delete the index, refer to page 52. ● Recording sometimes may stop or cannot be performed even when there is enough available capacity remaining on the disc if the signal source is copy-protected or intermittent. ● It is not possible to record on both DVD and HDD simultaneously. ● It is not possible to record from this unit's built-in tuner to the DV deck. Recording Mode MPEG2 format is used as recording format. As a guide for picture quality, the AbpsB unit is used to represent how much data can be recorded per second. The larger this value is, the better the picture quality becomes but more capacity is required for the recording. Select XP or SP for programs where quick movement occurs, such as sports programs, and LP or EP for talk shows, etc. with relatively less movement. The recording modes for a 4.7 GB disc are set as follows: Recording mode Recording amount (approx.) Maximum recording time (approx.)
