Using printer menus Parallel Menu Use the Parallel Menu to change printer settings affecting jobs sent to the printer through a parallel port (either Std Parallel or Parallel Opt ). Note: Values marked by an asterisk (*) are the factory default settings. Menu Item Advanced Status Purpose To enable bidirectional communication through the parallel port. Values Off On* Honor Init Job Buffering To determine whether the printer Off* honors hardware initialization requests from the computer. The computer requests initialization by activating the INIT signal on the On parallel interface. Many personal computers activate the INIT signal each time the computer is turned on and off. To temporarily store jobs on the printer hard disk before printing. Note: Changing this menu item automatically resets the printer. Off* On Auto MAC Binary PS To configure the printer to process On Macintosh binary PostScript print jobs. Off Auto* NPA Mode To specify whether the printer performs the special processing required for bidirectional communication, following the conventions defined in the Network Printing Alliance (NPA) Protocol. Note: Changing this menu item automatically resets the printer. On Off Auto* Disables parallel port negotiation. Enables bidirectional communication through the parallel interface. Printer does not honor hardware initialization requests from the computer. Printer honors hardware initialization requests from the computer. Does not buffer print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs only if the printer is busy processing data from another input port. Printer processes raw binary PostScript print jobs from computers using the Macintosh operating system. Note: This setting often causes Windows print jobs to fail. Printer filters PostScript print jobs using standard protocol. Printer processes print jobs from computers using either Windows or Macintosh operating systems. Printer performs NPA processing. If data is not in NPA format, it is rejected as bad data. Printer does not perform NPA processing. Printer examines data and determines the format and then processes it appropriately. Using printer menus
Parallel Menu
Use the Parallel Menu to change printer settings affecting jobs sent to the printer through a parallel
port (either Std Parallel or Parallel Opt <x>).
Note:

computer.
On

Buffering
