Using a non-dedicated flash unit Hot shoe Flash synchro socket 1 An external flash can be attached to the camera at the hot shoe or at the flash synchro socket. 2 Set the mode dial to M (Manual mode). Select the shutter speed and aperture value. Selecting a slow shutter speed 6 increases the possibility of camera shake. 3 On the flash unit select AUTO, and then set the same aperture and ISO settings selected on the camera. For some shots you may not be able to achieve the correct exposure. If this occurs, then you can experiment with different aperture and ISO settings on the external flash unit. (In this situation, the flash control mode setting on the camera is disabled.) 95
