AE lock This function is suitable for situations when optimum exposure is difficult to achieve, such as when there is excessive contrast between the subject and the surroundings. Ex: Advanced shooting functions The landscape appears dark because the sky is bright. Recompose your picture so there is not much sky in the frame and lock the exposure. Compose your picture again with the sky in the frame and take the picture. 4 1 Compose your picture so that you can lock the exposure, and press the [ button. g "Direct buttons" (P. 12) 1/200 F4.0 0.0 • The meter reading is saved. • To reset the AE lock, press the [ button again. Press the [ button to engage and disengage the AE lock. Doing so will cancel the AE lock. j When the camera reactivates after sleep mode, or the power or monitor is turned off, the AE lock is canceled. 57
