8 − Mastering and CD recorder 2 Press the YES/ENTER key to open the MASTERING TOOL LIBRARY screen. 3 Use the Ó/Á cursor keys to select PRESET or USER. Depending on the selection, either the preset list or the user setting list is shown in the upper part of the screen. PRESET stores factory-prepared patches and USER stores patches with settings made by the user. NOTE See "15-Appendix" on page 103 for details of preset data. 4 Use the JOG/DATA dial to select the compressor patch in the list that you want to recall. 5 Press the YES/ENTER key to return to the compressor screen. The screen shows the parameters of the patch selected in the library. NOTE If you press the NO/EXIT key instead of the YES/ENTER key, the MASTERING TOOL screen (compressor screen) will reopen without recalling a patch. 6 Use the cursor keys and the JOG/DATA dial to select and adjust parameters. 7 When using a multiband compressor, after finishing the settings for one band, use the Ó/Á cursor keys to open the compressor setting screen for a different band and follow the same procedures to set it. The compressor parameters and their setting ranges are as follows. THRESHOLD The threshold level at which the compressor begins to function can be set in the following range. -32 dB - 0 dB (in 1 dB increments) RATIO Select from the following compression ratios 1.0:1, 1.1:1, 1.3:1, 1.5:1, 1.7:1, 2.0:1, 2.5:1, 3.0:1, 3.5:1, 4.0:1, 72 TASCAM 2488neo 5.0:1, 6.0:1, 8.0:1, 16.0:1, 32.0:1, ∞:1 KNEE Select from the following curves at the point where the compressor takes effect. The higher the number is the gentler the curve. Hard indicates no curve and results in abrupt compression. Hard, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 LEVEL Adjust the output level in the following range. -20 dB - +20 dB (in 1 dB increments) ATTACK Adjust the attack time in the following range. 1 ms - 200 ms (in 1 ms increments) RELEASE Adjust the release time in the following range. 10 ms - 2000 ms (in 10 ms increments) CROSS LO (only when a multiband compressor is selected) Adjust the crossover frequency between the low and mid sound bands in the following range. 125 Hz - 1.00k Hz (in 1/12 octave increments) CROSS HI (only when a multiband compressor is selected) Adjust the crossover frequency between the mid and high sound bands in the following range. 1.00 kHz - 8.00 kHz (in 1/12 octave increments) A.MAKEUP (only when a single band compressor is selected) Automatically corrects the volume to prevent it from being reduced by the compressor. SWITCH Turns the compressor ON and OFF. When using a multiband compressor, setting the SWITCH item ON or OFF on one screen simultaneously affects all bands. NOTE The multiband compressor CROSS LO and CROSS HI items can be set on screen for any of the frequency bands. The mid-range band of the multiband compressor must be a minimum of 2 octaves (24 semitones). For example, if CROSS LO is set at 250 Hz, CROSS HI cannot be set below 1 kHz.
