201 Managing Your Tecra 8100 Computer System management can be translated to SNMP information which can be monitored and manipulated by SNMP-enabled management applications. In addition, SNMP traps can be sent when problems arise, proactively notifying enterprise management applications of the problem. Extensive testing and integration of the Tecra 8100 advanced system management features within the enterprise management environment makes this system ideal for use in large corporate environments. SMS connection With Toshiba's SMS Connection, using Microsoft's System Management Server to manage and support the Tecra 8100 can extend the power of this popular package to include hardware and system configurations. By using Toshiba's SMS Connection, a wide variety of additional hardware-related information is added to the SMS database. With SMS Connection installed on the Tecra 8100 computer, SMS becomes a significantly more useful management tool in a variety of areas: ❖ Remote trouble shooting is easier with detailed hardware configuration information at your fingertips. ❖ Systems can be tracked based on serial number as asset tag information. ❖ Systems with desired hardware configurations or components can be searched. ❖ Systems that have had unauthorized hardware changes can be identified. Advanced features via the NetDock The Tecra 8100 offers a number of advanced networking features that become available when the computer is attached to the NetDock. These include Wake on LAN, Service Boot and Alert On LAN, as described below. Part II: Technical Reference
