4Air Conditioning Syskm (OPTION) The air conditioner and heater work best if you keep your windows closed while using them. Your vehicle also has the flow-through ventilation system described laterin this section. Lever Controls: The upperlever changes the functions of your system. The lower lever changes temperature the of the air comingthrough the system. Sets the fan speed. To select the force of air you want, move the lever. The fan is always running unless the upper leveris moved to OFF. , air is directed to theupper portion of your bodythrough the instrument panel outlets, but slightly warmer is directed air through the heater ducts and defroster vents. At times temperature difference this may be moreapparent than others. Ventilation hot inside air escape. This reduces the amount of work your air conditioner's compressor will haveto do, which should help fuel economy. The airconditioner compressor operates in all A/C positions, and in DEF (Defrost) when the outside temperature is higherthan about40" F (4.5"C). MAX (Maximum):Use for maximum cooling. This setting recirculates much o f the air inside your vehicle it maximizes so your air conditioner's performance and your vehicle's fuel economy. NORM (Normal): Use for normal cooling on hot days. This setting cools outside air and directs it through the instrument panel outlets. B/L (Bi-Level) : Use on cool, but s u n q days. Thissetting brings in the outside air, butdirects it in two ways. The cool Slide the upper lever to VENT. Air flow is through the instrument panel outlets. Set the lower leverto the temperature desired. Heating Sliding the upper lever to HTR (Heater) and the lower leverto theright will send heated air through the heater ducts, and some through the defroster vents. The air conditioner compressor doesn't run in the VENT and HTR settings. This reduces engine load, resultingimproved in fuel economy. If either setting to keep fails you comfortable, or causes your windows to fog up, slide the upper lever to one of the A/C positions, or to DEF (Defrost). a: Air Conditioning The upper lever three air has conditioner settings. 4Air
Conditioning
Syskm
(OPTION)
The air conditioner
and
heater
work
best if
you keep
your
windows
closed
while
using
them.
Your
vehicle
also
has
the flow-through
ventilation
system
described
later
in this section.
Lever
Controls:
The
upper
lever
changes the functions of your
system.
The
lower
lever
changes
the temperature
of
the air
coming
through the system.
a:
Sets the fan
speed. To
select the
force
of
air
you want, move the lever.
The
fan
is
always
running unless the
upper
lever
is
moved to
OFF.
Air
Conditioning
The
upper
lever
has three air
conditioner
settings.
On
very
hot
days,
open the windows
long
enough
to let
hot inside air escape. This reduces the
amount
of
work your air conditioner's
compressor
will
have
to do, which
should help fuel
economy.
The
air conditioner compressor operates
in all
A/C
positions, and in
DEF
(Defrost) when the outside temperature
is
higher
than
about
40"
F
(4.5"
C).
MAX
(Maximum):
Use for
maximum
cooling.
This
setting
recirculates
much
of
the air
inside
your
vehicle
so
it maximizes
your air conditioner's performance and
your
vehicle's
fuel
economy.
NORM
(Normal):
Use for normal
cooling on hot days. This setting cools
outside air and directs it through the
instrument panel outlets.
B/L
(Bi-Level)
:
Use on cool, but sunq
days.
This setting brings in the outside
air,
but directs it in two ways. The cool
air is directed to
the upper portion
of
your
body through the instrument panel
outlets,
but
slightly
warmer air is
directed
through the heater ducts and defroster
vents.
At
times
this
temperature
difference
may
be
more apparent than
others.
Ventilation
Slide the upper lever
to
VENT.
Air
flow
is through the instrument panel outlets.
Set the lower
lever to
the
temperature
desired.
Heating
Sliding the upper lever to
HTR
(Heater)
and the lower
lever
to
the right will send
heated air through the heater ducts, and
some through the defroster vents.
The air conditioner compressor doesn't
run in the
VENT
and
HTR
settings.
This
reduces
engine
load,
resulting
in improved
fuel
economy. If either
setting
fails
to keep
you
comfortable,
or
causes
your
windows
to fog up, slide the upper lever to one
of
the
A/C
positions, or to
DEF
(Defrost).
Defrosting
The
DEF
setting directs most air
through the defroster vents, and some
through the heater ducts.
