f Open the Upper Jam Clear Cover (1). Make sure that there is no jammed paper left in the corners of the machine. 1 Note If the paper is jammed under the print head, unplug the machine from the power source, and then move the print head to take out the paper. g Close the Upper Jam Clear Cover. Troubleshooting and Routine Maintenance Dial Tone B Setting the dial tone to Detection will shorten the dial detect pause. a Press Menu, 0, 4. b Press a or b to choose Detection or No Detection. Press OK. c Press Stop/Exit. Phone line interference B If you are having problems sending or receiving a fax due to possible interference on the phone line, we recommend that you adjust the Equalization for compatibility to reduce the modem speed for fax operations. a Press Menu, 2, 0, 2. b Press a or b to choose Basic (or Normal). „ Basic reduces the modem speed to 9,600 bps. Unless interference is a recurring problem on your phone line, you may prefer to use it only when needed. „ Normal sets the modem speed at 14,400 bps. (Default) Press OK. c Press Stop/Exit. Note When you change the compatibility to Basic, the ECM feature is not available. h Push the paper tray firmly back into the machine. While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the paper support until it clicks and unfold the paper support flap. (See the illustrations in Loading paper on page 8.) 73

Open the Upper Jam Clear Cover (1).
Make sure that there is no jammed
paper left in the corners of the machine.
Note
If the paper is jammed under the print
