Backplane WARNING: Whenever you need to lift the array, get others to assist you. To avoid injury, do not attempt to lift the array by yourself. CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Removing the Backplane 1 Turn off the array and disconnect it from the electrical outlet. 2 Disconnect all the cables connected to the array. 3 Remove the hard drives. See "Removing a Hard Drive" on page 212. 4 Remove the RAID controller modules. See "Removing a RAID Controller Module" on page 219. 5 Remove the power supply/cooling fan modules. See "Removing a Power Supply/Cooling Fan Module" on page 224. 6 Remove the control panel. See "Removing the Control Panel" on page 227. 7 Remove the screws that secure the RAID controller module /power supply cage to the chassis. 8 Grasp the cage removal ring at the bottom center of the array and pull the RAID controller module /power supply cage toward the back of the chassis. See Figure 16-15. 9 Lift the RAID controller module /power supply cage away from the chassis. See Figure 16-15. 10 Loosen the captive screw that secures the backplane to the chassis. See Figure 16-16 for PowerVault MD3600i or Figure 16-17 for PowerVault MD3620i. 11 Remove the screws that secure the backplane and pull the backplane out of the array. Removing the Backplane

Turn off the array and disconnect it from the electrical outlet.

Disconnect all the cables connected to the array.

Remove the hard drives. See "Removing a Hard Drive" on page 212.

Remove the RAID controller modules. See "Removing a RAID Controller
Module" on page 219.

Remove the power supply/cooling fan modules. See "Removing a Power
Supply/Cooling Fan Module" on page 224.

Remove the control panel. See "Removing the Control Panel" on page 227.

Remove the screws that secure the RAID controller module /power supply
cage to the chassis.

Grasp the cage removal ring at the bottom center of the array and pull the
RAID controller module /power supply cage toward the back of the chassis.

Lift the RAID controller module /power supply cage away from the chassis.

Loosen the captive screw that secures the backplane to the chassis. See
Figure 16-16 for PowerVault MD3600i or Figure 16-17 for PowerVault
