Loading Pages in the Automatic Document Feeder The ADF can hold up to 100 pieces of paper, based on a paper weight of 55 g/m2, up to a total thickness of about 1/2 inch (12 mm). If you're using 20 pound bond paper, it's somewhat thicker and heavier (75 g/m2), so you won't be able to load quite as many sheets. Use the marking on the side of the tray as a guide, as shown: Do not load paper above the top line The ADF accepts the following sizes of paper, in weights from about 13 to 34 pounds letter-size (50 to 127 g/m2): U.S. paper sizes Ledger or tabloid (11 × 17 inch) Legal (8.5 × 14 inch) Letter (8.5 × 11 inch) Executive (7.5 × 10 inch) International paper sizes A3 (297 × 420 mm) B4 (250 × 353 mm) A4 (210 × 297 mm) B5 (176 × 250 mm) A5 (148 × 210 mm) Before loading the ADF, make sure the document: ■ Has no wet ink on it. ■ Has no holes or no cut-out areas. ■ Is not ripped or wrinkled. ■ Has no staples or other objects attached that may damage the feeder. ■ Has no folds near the edge (within 1/4 inch of the edge). ■ Is not a multipart form. ■ Is not bound. ■ Has no carbon coating. 58 Using Optional Equipment
