Chapter 2 HP NetServer LT 6000r Processor Upgrade Tools Required The following tools are required to remove and replace processor modules and there respective VRM. • An antistatic service kit (3M™ 8501/8502/8503 or equivalent). This kit includes a static-dissipating work surface, a chassis clip lead, and a wrist strap. Use this kit to prevent damage to the system from static electricity. • T-15 Torx driver may only be needed the first time the HP NetServer is opened. Upgrade Overview To upgrade a processor, or processors in the HP NetServer LT 6000r, you will follow these basic steps: l Shut down the NOS and the HP NetServer. l Remove the required covers and cables (AC and I/O). • Extend the NetServer from the rack. l Open the NetServer for access to the system board. • Remove the system board and processor cage covers. • Remove the terminator (if you are adding an additional processor). or Remove the existing processor module and VRM (if you are upgrading processor modules). • Install the new processor module. • Install a VRM. • Set the configuration switch settings, if necessary. • Complete the hardware installation. • Update the BIOS and, if necessary, reinstall the NOS. Configuration Guidelines Use the following guidelines when installing additional processor modules in the LT 6000r: 16
