Update the firmware The following steps explain how to download and update the firmware on the printer. Step one: Download the firmware from HP.com 1. Go to www.hp.com/support, select Software and Drivers, type the printer name in the search field, click Find, and then select the model from the list of search results. 2. If it is not automatically detected, select or change the operating system. 3. Under the Firmware or Firmware-system section, locate the Firmware Update Utility file. 4. Click Download and save the file to a location such as your Desktop or Downloads folder. 5. Open the location where the firmware file was saved, right-click the .zip file, and then extract the files. Step two: Update the firmware Follow the appropriate steps for either a USB cable connection or a wired network connection. Method one: Update the firmware for a USB-connected printer (Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10) Use this method to update the firmware if the printer is connected to the computer via a USB cable. NOTE: In order to use this method, you must have a driver or full software solution installed. 1. Make sure the printer is connected to the computer via a USB cable and can successfully copy or print. 2. Turn the printer off. 3. Press and hold the Stop button on the device control panel. 4. Turn the printer on, keeping the Stop button pressed in until the control panel displays the following message: Download mode, press stop or cancel key. 5. Press the Stop panel. button again to enter Emergency Mode. A Wait Image messages displays on the control 6. On your computer, navigate to the folder containing the files downloaded from HP.com. 7. Select the *.hd firmware file and drag and drop it onto the usblist2.exe file. The firmware update will start automatically on the printer. 8. Once completed, the firmware update will reboot the printer automatically. 9. Print a configuration page to verify the installed firmware version after the update process. Method two: Update the firmware for a network-connected printer Use this method to update the firmware if the printer is connected to the computer via a wired network. Update the firmware
The following steps explain how to download and update the firmware on the printer.
Step one: Download the firmware from HP.com
1.
Go to
www.hp.com/
support
, select
Software and Drivers
, type the printer name in the search field, click
Find
, and then select the model from the list of search results.

If it is not automatically detected, select or change the operating system.
3.
Under the
Firmware
or
Firmware-system
section, locate the Firmware Update Utility file.
4.
Click
Download
and save the file to a location such as your Desktop or Downloads folder.
5.
Open the location where the firmware file was saved, right-click the .zip file, and then extract the files.
Step two: Update the firmware
Follow the appropriate steps for either a USB cable connection or a wired network connection.
