To check the estimated ink levels from the printer control panel 1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard. 2. Touch (Ink) to check the estimated ink levels. To check the estimated ink levels from the HP printer software (Windows) 1. Open the HP printer software. For more information, see Open the HP printer software (Windows). 2. In the printer software, from the main menu on the top, click Estimated Cartridge Levels. To check the ink levels from the HP printer software (OS X) 1. Open HP Utility. HP Utility is located in the HP folder in the Applications folder at the top level of the hard disk. 2. Select the printer from the Devices list. 3. Click Supplies Status. The estimated ink levels appear. NOTE: ● If you have installed a refilled or remanufactured cartridge, or a cartridge that has been used in another printer, the ink level indicator might be inaccurate or unavailable. ● Ink from the cartridges is used in the printing process in a number of different ways, including in the initialization process, which prepares the printer and cartridges for printing, and in printhead servicing, which keeps print nozzles clear and ink flowing smoothly. In addition, some residual ink is left in the cartridge after it is used. For more information, see www.hp.com/go/inkusage . Printing with black or color ink only For regular usage, this product is not designed to print using only one cartridge. However, when one cartridge runs out of ink, you can remove it and use the other cartridge to continue printing. The printer supports this capability only if the cartridge has sufficient ink. Therefore, you should replace the empty cartridge as soon as possible. Replace the cartridges If you do not already have spare cartridges, see Order the cartridges. Not all cartridges are available in all countries/regions. CAUTION: HP recommends that you install any missing cartridges as soon as possible to avoid print quality issues and possible extra ink usage or damage to the ink system.
