Modifying port operating characteristics
You can make permanent or temporary changes to port operating characteristics. The
set config port
command makes permanent port configuration changes. These changes are saved in
the active configuration and are preserved across switch or port resets. The
set port
command makes
temporary changes that apply until the next port or switch reset, or until you activate a configuration.
The following example permanently changes port administrative state of port 1:
8/20q FC Switch #> admin start
8/20q FC Switch (admin) #> config edit
8/20q FC Switch (admin-config) #> set config port 1
A list of attributes with formatting and current values will follow.
Enter a new value or simply press the ENTER key to accept the current value.
If you wish to terminate this process before reaching the end of the list
press 'q' or 'Q' and the ENTER key to do so.

You can configure all ports based a specified source port using the
set config ports
command. The
following example configures ports 0–20 based on port 3:
8/20q FC Switch #> admin start
8/20q FC Switch (admin) config edit
8/20q FC Switch (admin) #> set config ports 3
.
.
.
8/20q FC Switch (admin-config)#> config save
8/20q FC Switch (admin)#> config activate
8/20q FC Switch (admin)#> admin end
The following example temporarily changes the administrative state of port 1 to
down
:
8/20q FC Switch #> admin start
8/20q FC Switch (admin) #> set port 1 state down
