Front fan Before you begin: v Read Appendix B, "Safety information," on page 143. v Review the information in "System reliability guidelines" on page 25. To remove the front fan, complete the following steps: 1. Turn off the server, if it is on. 2. Disconnect the power cord from the power source and from the server; then, disconnect all external cables. 3. Remove the cover (see "Removing the side cover" on page 28). 4. Remove the frame-support bracket (see "Removing and installing the support bracket" on page 32). 5. Remove the fan cable from the system board. 6. Disconnect any cables that run through the opening in the adapter-support bracket and fan housing (from the front area of the server to the system board). 7. Remove the adapter-support bracket and fan housing: a. Lift the release lever for the adapter-support bracket and fan housing. b. Slide the fan housing toward the top of the server until it is free of the tabs on the chassis. 8. To

the
front
fan,
complete
the
following
steps:
1.
Turn
off
the
server,
if
it
is
on.
2.
Disconnect
the
power

the
power
source

from
the
server;
then,
disconnect
all
external
cables.
3.
Remove
the

4.
Remove
the
frame-support
bracket

5.
Remove
the
fan

from
the
system
board.
6.
Disconnect
any
cables

the

bracket
and
fan
housing
(from
the
front

the

to
the

board).
7.
Remove
the
adapter-support
bracket
and
fan
housing:
a.
Lift
the
release
lever
for
the
adapter-support
bracket
and
fan
housing.
b.
Slide
the
fan
housing
toward
the
top
of
the
server
until
it
is
free
of
the
tabs
on
the
chassis.
8.
Use
side
cutters
to
cut
the
four
rubber
extensions
on
the
adapter-support
bracket.
