Important Updating the System BIOS might overwrite the existing configuration and reset it to the system default values. Before you begin this procedure, make sure that you have recorded the settings of the configuration. To do that, go into the Configuration/Setup Utility program and record the information. You can record the information on a piece of paper or in the Server Records and Specifications tables found in the Hardware Information section of the Server Library. If you need information about the Configuration/Setup Utility program, refer to the documentation that comes with the server. After you have recorded the information, continue with this procedure. Complete this procedure to update the system BIOS. 1. Insert the IBM Netfinity 5500 BIOS Update Diskette in the diskette drive. 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the server. The system begins the power-on self-test (POST). 3. Select 1 - Update POST/BIOS from the menu that contains various flash (update) options. 4. Select Y when you are asked if you would like to move the current POST/BIOS image to the backup ROM location. 5. Select N when you are asked if you would like to save the current code to a diskette. 6. You will be asked to choose which language you wish to use. Select your language (0-7) and press Enter to accept your choice. When complete, you will be prompted to remove the diskette and press Enter to restart the system. 7. Remove the diskette and go to "Updating the Advanced System Management Processor code." Updating the Advanced System Management Processor code: Complete this procedure to update the advanced system management processor code. 1. Insert the IBM Netfinity 5500 Advanced System Management Processor Update Diskette into the diskette drive. 2. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart the server.
