Installation

Page 60 highlights

1. Read the safety information that begins on page v, "Installation guidelines" on page 29, and the documentation that comes with the drive. 2. Turn off the computer and all attached devices; then, disconnect all external cables and power cords. 3. Remove the side cover (see "Removing the side cover" on page 35). 4. Remove the bezel (see "Removing the bezel" on page 36). 5. Touch the static-protective package that contains the drive to any unpainted metal surface on the computer; then, remove the drive from the package and place it on a static-protective surface. 6. Set any jumpers or switches on the new drive according to the documentation that comes with the drive. 7. To install the drive in bay 4, complete the following steps. To install a drive in bay 5 or 6 go to step 8. a. Lift up on the bottom edge of the internal drive-bay bracket and rotate the bracket out of the computer. b. Install the hard disk drive onto the hard disk drive tray, with the screws that come with the drive. Slide the drive into the bay until it snaps into place. If you are replacing the drive in bay 4, use the captured thumbscrew that you received earlier, to attach the drive to the chassis. c. Determine whether the drive is a SATA or SAS device; then, connect one end of the applicable signal cable into the back of the drive and make sure that the other end of this cable is connected into the applicable SATA or SAS connector. d. Route the signal cable so that it does not block the airflow to the rear of the drives or over the microprocessor and DIMMs. e. Connect the power cable to the back of the drive. The connectors are keyed and can be inserted only one way. If you have other devices to install, do so now; otherwise, go to "Completing the installation" on page 53. 8. To install the drive in bay 5 or bay 6, complete the following steps. Note: Before you can install a drive in bay 6, you must remove the plastic block from bay 6. a. Install the two shoulder screws, one on each side, at the front of the new drive. 48 IBM IntelliStation M Pro Type 9229: User's Guide
