Ambience effects How to calculate the proper delay time Assuming that the distance from the front speakers is A meters and that from the surround speakers is B meters: What is delay time? Front speakers Am Bm Surround speakers C-V351/C-V301 (EN) 1 Use the delay time calcula- tion chart on the right. Example: 20 23 17 26 20 16 29 23 17 37 When A = 3 m,B = 3 m, 26 20 16 29 23 17 the delay time is 20 ms. 26 20 16 29 23 17 2 Use the following 8 7 formula for calculation. 6 5 26 20 16 29 26 23 20 17 16 29 23 17 26 20 16 8 7 6 5 Delay time = 20 + 3 × (A - B) (Unit: ms) 4 23 17 4 A (m) 3 2 20 3 2 B (m) 1 1 The sound entering the ears include the direct sound coming from the sound source and the indirect sounds reflected from the walls, floor, ceiling, etc. The indirect sounds are delayed because they travel longer distance required for reflection before they reach the ears. The delay time is the difference in time between the direct sound and indirect sounds. 3 Adjust the level from each speaker. "Test Tone" RC 1 Output the "Test Tone". TEST TONE GRC Test Tone ENTER Test Tone ENTER 2 Adjust the levels of the other speakers than the front speakers (left, right). LEVEL To decrease level Channel Level SL+10dB ENTER To decrease level 3 Quit the speaker level adjustment. TEST TONE Test Tone ENTER To increase level Return ENTER 4 Adjust the delay time. "DELAY" RC GRC 1 Select the Delay Time adjustment display. MODE Delay Time ENTER 2 Adjust the Delay Time. To increase MULTI CONTROL LEVEL Delay Time 20msec To decrease To increase To decrease ENTER 3 Quit the delay time adjustment. Return ENTER ÷ The test tone which sounds like noise move across speakers in the following sequence every 1.5 second. RC/Main unit Each press switches the adjustment items as shown below. 1 BASS :Tone, Bass 2 TREBLE :Tone, Treble 3 L R :Balance 4 C ch :Center speaker 5 SR ch :Surround speaker, Right 6 SL ch :Surround speaker, Left 7 SW ch :Subwoofer 8 DELAY :Delay time 9 INPUT :Input level ÷ Adjustment items 5, 6 and 8 are not required in the 3 STEREO mode. ÷ Find the optimum delay time for the listening room by referring to "How to calculate the delay time". ÷ The delay time in the PRO LOGIC mode can be adjusted between 15 and 30 ms. ÷ Select the closest value to the value obtained by "How to calculate the delay time".
