Before Making Copies Chapter 3 3.8 Loading Originals 3 Positioning Books When copying an open book or magazine, position the original as detailed below. 1 Raise the Automatic Document Feeder or Original Cover. 2 Place the original face down on the Original Glass. ✎ Note Do not place books weighing more than 4-1/2 lb on the Original Glass. In addition, do not press down extremely hard on the original, otherwise the machine may be damaged. 3 Position the original on the Original Glass so that the corner of the original aligns with the arrow in the upper-left corner of the Original Scales. 4 Gently lower the Automatic Document Feeder or Original Cover. ✎ Note While scanning a thick book or other three-dimensional object with the Automatic Document Feeder or Original Cover open, do not look directly at the bright light that may shine through the Original Glass. When copying an open book or magazine, position the original as detailed below.

Raise the Automatic Document Feeder or Original Cover.

Place the original face down on
the Original Glass.
Note
Do not place books weighing
more than 4-1/2 lb on the
Original Glass. In addition, do
not press down extremely hard
on the original, otherwise the
machine may be damaged.

Note
While scanning a thick book or other three-dimensional object with the
