Before Making Copies Chapter 3 3.8 Loading Originals 3 Positioning Books When copying an open book or magazine, position the original as detailed below. 1 Raise the Automatic Document Feeder or Original Cover. 2 Place the original face down on the Original Glass. ✎ Note Do not place books weighing more than 4-1/2 lb on the Original Glass. In addition, do not press down extremely hard on the original, otherwise the machine may be damaged. 3 Position the original on the Original Glass so that the corner of the original aligns with the arrow in the upper-left corner of the Original Scales. 4 Gently lower the Automatic Document Feeder or Original Cover. ✎ Note While scanning a thick book or other three-dimensional object with the Automatic Document Feeder or Original Cover open, do not look directly at the bright light that may shine through the Original Glass.
