Network/Ports Menu item Serial Buffer Job Buffering Serial Protocol Robust XON Purpose Values and descriptions Configures the size of the serial input buffer. Note: Changing the Serial Buffer menu item automatically resets the MFP. Any permanent resources, such as fonts or macros, are lost. Disabled Auto* The MFP disables job buffering. Any jobs already buffered on the hard disk are printed before normal processing of incoming jobs resumes. The MFP automatically calculates the Serial Buffer size (recommended setting). 3K to maximum size allowed (1K increments) The user specifies the Serial Buffer size. The maximum size depends on the amount of memory in the MFP, the size of the other link buffers, and whether Resource Save is set to On or Off. To maximize the range for the Serial Buffer size, disable or reduce the size of the parallel and USB buffers. This menu item only appears when a formatted hard disk is installed. Temporarily stores jobs on the MFP hard disk before printing. Note: Changing the Job Buffering menu item automatically resets the MFP. It is reset to configure memory, and any permanent resources, such as fonts or macros, are lost. Off* On Auto Does not buffer print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs only if the MFP is busy processing data from another input port. Selects the hardware and software DTR* handshaking values for the serial interface. DTR/DSR Hardware handshaking. Hardware handshaking. XON/XOFF Software handshaking. XON/XOFF/DTR Combined hardware and software handshaking. XONXOFF/DTRDSR Combined hardware and software handshaking. Determines whether the MFP Off* communicates availability to the computer. This menu item only applies to the On serial port if Serial Protocol is set to XON/XOFF. The MFP waits to receive data from the computer. The MFP sends a continuous stream of XONs to the host computer to indicate that the serial port is ready to receive more data. 38
