HotSync® Manager and Technology The HotSync manager controls the entire HotSync process. It runs in the background and monitors the communication between your phone and the desktop computer. When your phone is placed in the cradle and the HotSync button is pressed, all data is synchronized on your phone with the desktop computer. The applications include: ᮣ Date Book ᮣ Address Book ᮣ To Do List ᮣ Memo Pad ᮣ Expense Applications ᮣ e-mail Applications Data is synchronized even if the Palm Desktop application is not running. Performing Your First HotSync Operation An initial setup is required on both the desktop computer and your phone to synchronize the data for the first time. Once the information is entered, and your phone is recognized, the information is not required again. The first connection must be completed using a direct connection with a desktop holder, not a modem. Perform a HotSync the First Time 1. Follow the instructions for "Installing the i500 USB Drivers, PalmTM Desktop, and Pocket Mirror Applications" on page 29. 2. Launch the Palm Desktop application on the desktop computer. 3. Click on the HotSync icon located in the Windows task bar to open the HotSync Manager. 4. Click "Local USB" from the HotSync Managers menu. Be sure "Local Serial" is not checked.
