Adjusting the White Balance Adjusting the White Balance 2 1 Slide the AUTO LOCK switch down. [AUTO LOCKI 2 Select the white balance mode by pressing WHT BAL. Each time you press the button, the indicator in the viewfinder and the display window changes as follows. No indicator (auto) HOLD -> • (outdoor) .? (indoor) In the display window BAL In the viewfinder Note When you adjust the white balance manually, make sure you readjust white balance everytime you move from indoors to outdoors. or vice-versa. Locking the White Balance Setting (HOLD MODE ) HOLD mode allows you to lock in to certain white balance level. What is HOLD mode? When you set the white balance at HOLD mode, the last automatic white balance setting you made will be locked and maintained even if lighting conditions change. You should obtain better results by using the HOLD position when you shoot monochromatic subject or backgrounds. To enter HOLD mode 1 Slide the AUTO LOCK switch to the green position. The camcorder adjusts the white balance automatically. 2 Point the camcorder at a white, eat object such as a white wall or paper for about 15 seconds. 3 Slide the AUTO LOCK switch down. 4 Press WHT GAL to display the HOLD indicator in the viewfinder and the display window. 32 Advanced Operation Using the High-speed Shutter When you record a fast-moving subject, choose a higher shutter speed. The movement will look sharper during freeze frame when the tape is played back with an 8mm recorder that has the clear still function. Remember that you need enough lighting to use the high- speed shutter. To choose the best shutter speed Example use • On clear days, recording golf of tennis swing (To view the hit ball clearly in the still picture mode, set to 1/10000 or 1/4000) • Recording skiers • On overcast days, recording a moving carousel or roller coaster • Recording outdoors from inside a moving vehicle (for stable shooting) • Instead of using the ND2 (neutral density) filter (To reduce the exposure level to about half) • Recording indoor sports (for stable shooting) For your selection 1/10000 or 1/4000 or 1/2000 1/1000 or 1/250 1/100 Selecting the Shutter Speed You can select the shutter speed from 1/60 to 1/10000. 2 1 Slide the AUTO LOCK switch down.
