• Adjusting the Exposure When to Adjust the Exposure In the following cases, you would obtain better results by adjusting the exposure manually, Conditions The background is too bright (backlighting) Turn the EXPOSURE dial: Insufficient light: most of the picture is dark. The exposure is locked at the adjusted brightness, Resuming the automatic exposure mode Press EXPOSURE ON/OFF so that the exposure indicators disappear, or set the AUTO LOCK switch to the green position. 34 Advanced Operation Using Program AE When you use the PROGRAM AE (Auto Exposure) function, you can create a "portrait" effect (shallow depth of field) or capture high-speed action with the "sports" mode or "highspeed shutter" mode. Program AE automatically selects just the right combination of shutter speed and aperture settings and gives you creative control of depth of field (range of that will be in sharp focus). When to Use Each Mode You may want to use the respective mode when shooting the following subjects or when shooting under following conditions. Portrait mode • A still subject such as a person or a flower • Subject behind such obstacles as a net • Zooming on a subject in telephone mode Sports mode 4+ • Recording a landscape while in a moving car • Outdoor sports scenes such as football or tennis • Subjects moving at high speed such as a roller coaster Setting Portrait or Sports Mode Oro `7, .4* 2 O 1 Slide the AUTO LOCK switch down. IAUTO LOCK' 2 Press PROGRAM AE. The PROGRAM AE indicator appears in the viewfinder and the display window. Each time you press the button, the PROGRAM AE indicator changes as follows: C4 PROGRAM No indicator (automatic mode) i5 (portrait mode) I (sports mode) x In the viewfinder In the display window Resuming automatic mode Press PROGRAM AE to turn off the PROGRAM AE indicators, or set the AUTO LOCK switch to the green position. Using
Program
AE
When
you
use
the
PROGRAM
AE
(Auto
Exposure)
function,
you
can
create
a
