146 Toshiba Utilities Setting user passwords The tabs represent various dialog boxes. They are: ❖ General-Allows you to view current BIOS settings or to change certain settings back to their default values. ❖ Password-Allows you to set or reset a user password for the power-on process and for instant security. ❖ Display-Allows you to change various default settings for the built-in LCD display. ❖ Boot Priority-Allows you to change the sequence in which your computer searches the drives for the operating system. ❖ Keyboard-Allows you to enable/disable the Wake-up keyboard function. ❖ USB-Allows you to enable or disable USB Legacy Emulation. ❖ LAN-Allows you to set networking functions. By changing any of the options that appear in the dialog boxes and clicking Apply, you can reconfigure that function. Any options that you change will become default settings when you restart your system. Setting user passwords Setting a password leaves your computer secure so that nobody can access your files. You must enter the password before you can work on your computer. Toshiba supports several types of passwords on your computer: ❖ An instant password - Secures your open programs and files when leaving the computer temporarily. ❖ A power-on password - Prevents unauthorized users from starting or restarting the computer. ❖ A supervisor password - Prohibits unauthorized users from accessing certain functions such as Toshiba
