Chapter 14 Phone 14.7 Dial Plan A dial plan defines the dialing patterns, such as the length and range of the digits for a telephone number. It also includes country codes, access codes, area codes, local numbers, long distance numbers or international call prefixes. Without a dial plan, users have to manually enter the callee's whole number and wait for the specified dialing interval to time out or press a terminator key (usually the pound key on the phone keypad) before the V310 makes the call. The V310 initializes a call when the dialed number matches any one of the rules in the dial plan. Dial plan rules follow these conventions: • "x" stands for a wildcard and can be any digit from 0 to 9. • "?" indicates a number of any length, that is, any number from 0 to 99999999999999999999999999999. The number length varies by the firmware limit. For example, 0800? can be used for making support calls. • "(-x)" is to remove the digit before the parentheses and "(+x)" is to append the specified wildcard. For example, 9(-x) means the V310 automatically removes 9 from the number you dialed before making the call. This is always used for making outside calls from an office. In this example dial plan rule (+1)2xxxxxxxxx, you can make a long distance call with an area code starting from 2 in the US. Note: If a dialed number matches more than one dial plan rule, the V310 applies the most specific rule. Click Configuration > Phone > Dial Plan. The following screen displays. Dial Plan
A dial plan defines the dialing patterns, such as the length and range of the digits for a telephone
number. It also includes country codes, access codes, area codes, local numbers, long distance
numbers or international call prefixes.
Without a dial plan, users have to manually enter the callee’s whole number and wait for the
specified dialing interval to time out or press a terminator key (usually the pound key on the phone
keypad) before the V310 makes the call.
The V310 initializes a call when the dialed number matches any one of the rules in the dial plan.
Dial plan rules follow these conventions:
“x” stands for a wildcard and can be any digit from 0 to 9.
“?” indicates a number of any length, that is, any number from 0 to
99999999999999999999999999999. The number length varies by the firmware limit. For
example, 0800? can be used for making support calls.
“(-x)” is to remove the digit before the parentheses and “(+x)” is to append the specified
wildcard.
For example, 9(-x) means the V310 automatically removes 9 from the number you
dialed before making the call. This is always used for making outside calls from an office. In this
example dial plan rule (+1)2xxxxxxxxx, you can make a long distance call with an area code
starting from 2 in the US.
Note: If a dialed number matches more than one dial plan rule, the V310 applies the
most specific rule.
