Compaq Parallel Database Cluster Model PDC/O5000 for Oracle8i and Windows 2000 Administrator Guide
Oracle8
i
Server Enterprise Edition
The Oracle8
i
Server Enterprise Edition provides the following:
Oracle8
i
Server
Oracle8
i
Parallel Server Option
Oracle8
i
Enterprise Manager
Oracle8
i
Server
Oracle8
i
Server is the database application software and must be installed on
each node in the PDC/O5000.
Refer to the documentation provided with the Oracle8
i
Server software for
detailed information.
Oracle8
i
Parallel Server Option
Oracle8
i
Parallel Server Option is the key component in the Oracle8
i
clustering architecture. Oracle8
i
Parallel Server allows the database server to
divide its workload among the physical cluster nodes. This is accomplished by
running a distinct instance of Oracle8
i
Server on each node in the PDC/O5000.
Oracle8
i
Parallel Server manages the interaction between these instances.
Through its Integrated Distributed Lock Manager, Oracle8
i
Parallel Server
manages the ownership of database records that are requested by multiple
instances.
At a lower level, Oracle8
i
Parallel Server monitors cluster membership. It
interacts with the OSDs, exchanging information about the state of each
cluster node.
