Monitoring Status of Device Paths, Restoring Missing Device Paths, Disable/Enable the Switch Port

Page 25 highlights

Known Issues HP strongly recommends that customers periodically monitor device status to verify access is available on all configured paths. HP further recommends that cabling for multiple paths follow the high availability cabling guidelines published in the hp StorageWorks SAN Design Reference Guide, which specifies to connect each path in a multi-path configuration to a different Fibre Channel switch. Monitoring Status of Device Paths Periodically use the "show dev/full" or "show dev/multi" command to display status of device paths. If a path is determined to be missing, follow the procedure below to restore the path. Restoring Missing Device Paths Restore device paths in one of two ways: • By disabling/enabling the affected switch port, or • By disconnecting/reconnecting the affected HBA cable at the HBA or at the switch port. Disable/Enable the Switch Port Use these steps to disable/enable the affected switch port. 1. Determine which path is missing using the show dev/full or sho dev/multi command. 2. After connecting to the switch via telnet, issue the command portdisable xx (where xx = the switch port number the HBA is plugged into) followed by "portenable xx". Disconnect/Reconnect the affected HBA cable Use these steps to disconnect/reconnect the affected HBA cable. 1. Determine the affected HBA cable. 2. To disconnect/reconnect the HBA cable at the switch, issue the command per the following example: set dev $1$dga601:/switch/path=PGA0.5000-1FE1-5000-2DED, set dev $1$dga604:/switch/path=PGA0.5000-1FE1-5000-2DE8 SAN switch 2/32, version 4.0.2b release notes 25

SAN switch 2/32, version 4.0.2b release notes
25
HP strongly recommends that customers periodically monitor device status to verify
access is available on all configured paths. HP further recommends that cabling for
multiple paths follow the high availability cabling guidelines published in the
hp
StorageWorks SAN Design Reference Guide
, which specifies to connect each path in a
multi-path configuration to a different Fibre Channel switch.
Monitoring Status of Device Paths
Periodically use the "show dev/full" or “show dev/multi” command to display status
of device paths. If a path is determined to be missing, follow the procedure below to
restore the path.
Restoring Missing Device Paths
Restore device paths in one of two ways:
By disabling/enabling the affected switch port, or
By disconnecting/reconnecting the affected HBA cable at the HBA or at the
switch port.
Disable/Enable the Switch Port
Use these steps to disable/enable the affected switch port.
1.
Determine which path is missing using the
show dev/full
or
sho dev/multi
command.
2.
After connecting to the switch via telnet, issue the command
portdisable xx
(where xx = the switch port number the HBA is plugged into) followed by
“portenable xx”.
Disconnect/Reconnect the affected HBA cable
Use these steps to disconnect/reconnect the affected HBA cable.
1.
Determine the affected HBA cable.
2.
To disconnect/reconnect the HBA cable at the switch, issue the command per the
following example:
set dev $1$dga601:/switch/path=PGA0.5000-1FE1-5000-2DED, set dev
$1$dga604:/switch/path=PGA0.5000-1FE1-5000-2DE8
