SECTION 7-WHEELS Determining/Adjusting Toe In/Toe Out NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 7.3. Determining Toe In/Toe Out 1. Inflate all pneumatic tires to recommended tire pressures (listed on the sidewall of the tire). 2. Measure the distance between the center lines at the rear and front of the rear wheels at approximately 12 inches from the ground/floor. NOTE: For optimum accuracy, perform STEP 2 with the handcycle occupied. Front of handcycle Toe-out Toe-in NOTE: Step 2 may be performed with using alignment gauge (available as an option for the handcycle). Refer to Using the Alignment Gauge on page 74. 3. Determine the difference between the two measurements. If the difference between the two measurements is greater than 1/8‐inch (for maximum rollability), one of two conditions exists: Top View of handcycle • If the back centerline measurement of the rear wheels is smaller than the front centerline measurement of the rear wheels, a toe‐out condition exists. Smaller Than Front Larger Than Front • If the back centerline measurement of the rear wheels is LARGER than the front centerline measurement of the rear wheels, a toe‐in condition exists. SECTION 7—WHEELS
Recumbent Handcycle Series
44
Part No 1114850
Determining/Adjusting Toe In/Toe Out
NOTE: For this procedure, refer to FIGURE 7.3.
Determining Toe In/Toe Out
1.
Inflate all pneumatic tires to recommended tire pressures (listed on the sidewall of the
tire).
2.
Measure the distance between the
center lines at the rear and front of the
rear wheels at approximately 12 inches
from the ground/floor.
NOTE: For optimum accuracy, perform STEP
2 with the handcycle occupied.
NOTE: Step 2 may be performed with using
alignment gauge (available as an option for the
handcycle). Refer to Using the Alignment
Gauge
on page 74.
3.
Determine the difference between the
two measurements. If the difference
between the two measurements is
greater than 1/8
inch (for maximum
rollability), one of two conditions exists:
If the back centerline measurement
of the rear wheels is smaller than
the front centerline measurement of
the rear wheels, a toe
out condition
exists.
If the back centerline measurement
of the rear wheels is LARGER than
the front centerline measurement of
the rear wheels, a toe
in condition
exists.
4.
If the difference between the
measurements is greater than 1/8
inch,
correct the toe
in/toe
out condition.
Refer to Adjusting Toe In/Toe Out
on
page 45.
