Setup Menu AF Assist d button M z (Setup menu) (A 121) M AF assist Enable or disable AF-assist illuminator, which assists autofocus operation when the subject is dimly lit. Auto (default setting) AF-assist illuminator will be used to assist the focus operation when the subject is dimly lit. The illuminator has a range of about 3.5 m (11 ft.) at the maximum wideangle position and about 1.5 m (4 ft. 11 in.) at the maximum telephoto position. Note that for some scene modes or focus areas, AF-assist illuminator may not light. Off AF-assist illuminator does not light. The camera may be unable to focus under dim lighting. Digital Zoom d button M z (Setup menu) (A 121) M Digital zoom Enable or disable digital zoom. On (default setting) When the camera is zoomed in to the maximum optical zoom position, rotating the zoom control to g (i) triggers digital zoom (A 25). Off Digital zoom will not be activated (except when recording movies). Basic Camera Setup B Notes on Digital Zoom • When digital zoom is in effect, the camera focuses at the center of the frame. • Digital zoom cannot be used in the following situations. - When Scene auto selector, Portrait, or Night portrait is selected in scene mode - When smart portrait mode is selected - When subject tracking mode is selected - When Continuous is set to Multi-shot 16 • When digital zoom is in effect, Metering is set to Center-weighted. 131
