Basic Photography and Playback: A (Auto) Mode Macro Mode Macro mode is used for taking pictures of objects as close as 2 cm (0.8 in.). Note that the flash may be unable to light the entire subject at distances of less than 50 cm (1 ft. 8 in.). 1 Press the multi selector p (macro mode). The macro mode menu is displayed. 2 Press the multi selector H or I to choose ON and press the k button. The macro mode icon (F) is displayed. If a setting is not applied by pressing the k button within a few seconds, the selection will be canceled. Macro mode 3 Rotate the zoom control to frame the picture. The closest distance at which the camera can focus varies depending on the zoom position. When the zoom is at a position where F and the zoom indicator glow green (to the left of G), the camera can focus on subjects as close as 4 cm (1.6 in.) from the lens. When the zoom is fully zoomed out, the camera can focus on subjects as close as 2 cm (0.8 in.) from the lens. C Autofocus When using A (auto) mode, if Autofocus mode (A 48) is set to Full-time AF, the camera focuses continuously until the shutter-release button is pressed halfway to lock the focus. Therefore, the sound of lens drive movement can be heard. When using other shooting modes, Full-time AF is turned on automatically when macro mode is turned on. C The Macro Mode Setting The macro mode setting applied in A (auto) mode is saved in the camera's memory even after the camera is turned off, and reapplied the next time A (auto) mode is selected. 33
