Troubleshooting Problem Cause/Solution A Image mode not available. Another function that restricts the Image mode option is enabled. 49 No sound when shutter is released. Off is selected for Sound settings>Shutter sound in setup menu. No sound is heard with some shooting modes and settings, even when 132 On is selected. AF-assist illuminator does not light. Off is selected for the AF assist option in the setup menu. AF-assist illuminator may not light depending on the position of the focus area or the current scene mode, even when Auto is selected. 54-61, 131 Images appear smeared. Lens is dirty. Clean lens. 144 Colors are unnatural. White balance or hue is not adjusted properly. 39, 59 Randomly spaced bright pixels ("noise") appear in image. Images are too dark (underexposed). • The subject is dark, so shutter speed is too slow or ISO sensitivity is too high. Noise can be reduced by: - Using flash. - Specifying a lower ISO sensitivity setting. • When shooting landscapes at night using the Scene auto selector or Night landscape scene modes, noise may appear in captured images if the camera is hand-held. In these cases, use of a tripod is recommended. • The flash mode is set to W (off). • Flash window is blocked. • Subject is beyond flash range. • Adjust exposure compensation. • Increase ISO sensitivity. • Subject is backlit. Select Backlighting scene mode or set the flash mode setting to X (fill flash). • When shooting landscapes at night using the Scene auto selector or Night landscape scene modes, captured images may be dark if the camera is hand-held.
