11-Exchanging Data with a Computer 6 Connect this unit to a computer using the USB cable (see "Connecting with a computer" on page 92). 7 Use the computer to copy backup files from the BACKUP directory on the FAT partition of the unit to the computer. 8 After copying finishes, disconnect the unit from the computer using the proper procedures and then remove the USB cable (see "Disconnecting" on page 93). CAUTION • If you change the song file name on the computer, you might have trouble when you restore the file to this unit later. • If you do change the file name of the backed-up song file, do not use more than eight characters in the new name. TIP • You can make further backup copies of the song file by copying it from the computer to a CD-R, for example. • You can also restore a backed-up song file to a different DP-004 unit. Since files can be shared freely between DP-004 units, you can easily conduct overdubbing or mixdown at different locations. Restoring songs Basically, restoring is the reverse of backing up. In short, transfer a backup file on a computer to this unit to restore a song. 1 Connect this unit to a computer using the USB cable (see "Connecting with a computer" on page 92). 2 Use the computer to copy backup files from the computer to the BACKUP directory on the FAT partition of the unit. 3. When copying finishes, disconnect the unit from the computer using the proper procedures and then remove the USB cable (see "Disconnecting" on page 93). 4 After this unit restarts automatically, press MENU to open the MENU screen. Turn the DATA wheel to select DATA BACKUP and press the F4 (¥) key. 5 Turn the DATA wheel to select SONG RESTORE, and press the F4 (¥) key. The screen shows the backup files on the FAT partition. 96 TASCAM DP-004
