Controls in detail Automatic transmission With SmartKey: X X X X X X X X X X Make sure the ignition is switched on. With the vehicle at a standstill, depress the brake pedal and keep it pressed. Shift the automatic transmission into neutral position N. Release the brake pedal. If engaged, release the parking brake. Switch off the ignition and leave the SmartKey in the starter switch. Make sure the ignition is switched on. With the vehicle at a standstill, depress the brake pedal and keep it pressed. Shift the automatic transmission into park position P. Release the brake pedal. Remove the KEYLESS-GO start/stop button from the starter switch. Insert the SmartKey into the starter switch. Switch on the ignition. Depress the brake pedal and keep it pressed. Shift the automatic transmission into neutral position N. Release the brake pedal. If engaged, release the parking brake. Switch off the ignition and leave the SmartKey in the starter switch. Shifting procedure The automatic transmission selects individual gears automatically, depending on: Rthe selected gear range (Y page 140) Rthe selected program mode C/S (Y page 141) position of the accelerator pedal vehicle speed Shifting into reverse gear R X Rthe Rthe With KEYLESS-GO: X X X X X X X X With the vehicle at a standstill, depress the brake pedal and move the gear selector lever up past the resistance point to select reverse gear R. With drive position D selected, you can influence transmission shifting by limiting or extending the gear range.
