If You're Stuck: In Sand, Mud, Ice or Snow What you don't want do when your vehicle is stuck is to to spin your wheels toofast. The method knownas "rocking" can help you out when you're stuck, but get you must usecaution. NOTICE: Spinning yourwheels can destroy parts of your vehicle as well as thetires. If you spin thewheels too fast while shifting your transaxle and back forth, you can destroy your transaxle. I If you let your tires spin high speed, they can at explode, and you or otherscould be injured. And, the transaxleor other partsof the vehicle can overheat. When you're stuck, spin the wheels as little as possible. Don't spin thewheels above35 mph (55 km/h) as shown on the speedometer. First, turn your steering wheel and right. That will left clear the area around your front wheels. If your vehicle has traction control, you should turn your traction control system off. (See "Traction Control System" in the Index.) Then shift back and between forth REVERSE (R) and a forward gear, spinning the wheels as little as possible. Release the accelerator pedal while you shift, and press lightly on the accelerator pedal when the transaxleis in gear. If that doesn't get you out after a few tries, you may need to be towed out.
