An Error Message Appears Printing does not start due to an error writing to LPT1. Cause Printer is not on Printer cable not connected correctly Printer cable fault Another device is connected to LPT1 Switching device or external buffer fault Print spool is not operating correctly Solution Check the power cord Make sure the printer is plugged in to a power outlet. Check the parallel cable Make sure the parallel cable is securely fastened to the computer and the printer. See the Quick Start Guide for details. Try to use another printer cable Make sure the cable is an IEEE 1284-compatible parallel interface cable. Check the LPT1 port Make sure the printer is connected to LPT1. Check the switching device or external buffer Disconnect the switching device or external buffer and print with the printer connected directly to the computer. If you can then print normally, the fault is probably in the switching device or external buffer. Consult the switching device or external buffer supplier. Change the spool setting Open the printer Properties dialog box. On the Details tab, click Spool Settings and then select "Print directly to the printer." 5-6 Troubleshooting Chapter 5

An Error Message Appears
Printing does not start due to an error writing to LPT1.
Cause
Solution
Printer is not on
Check the power cord
Make sure the printer is plugged in to a power outlet.
Printer cable not
Check the parallel cable
connected correctly
Make sure the parallel cable is securely fastened to the
computer and the printer. See the
Quick Start Guide
for
details.
Printer cable fault
Try to use another printer cable
Make sure the cable is an IEEE 1284-compatible parallel
interface cable.
Another device is
Check the LPT1 port
connected to LPT1
Make sure the printer is connected to LPT1.
Switching device or
Check the switching device or external buffer
external buffer fault
Disconnect the switching device or external buffer and
print with the printer connected directly to the computer.
If you can then print normally, the fault is probably in
the switching device or external buffer. Consult the
switching device or external buffer supplier.
Print spool is not
Change the spool setting
operating correctly
Open the printer Properties dialog box. On the Details
tab, click
Spool Settings
and then select “Print directly to
the printer.”
