Presario 1800 Series Models: XL180, XL181, XL182, XL183, XL184, XL185, and XL190, XL191, XL192 Display Problem Screen is blank. Display is blank and the Standby icon is flashing. Notebook display is blank and the screen on an external monitor displays information. Notebook display flashes or has garbled characters when Notebook is connected to external monitor. The light tubes on the edge of the display panel do no light up at all and the Power-On Self-Test (POST) completes when the unit is powered up.** The light tubes on the edge of the display panel do not light up at all and Power-On Self-Test (POST) does not complete when the unit is powered up.** Probable Cause Display has overheated. System is in Standby mode. Solution(s) If the Notebook is in direct sunlight, move it and allow it to cool off. Press any key or touch the TouchPad. Display function was switched Use Fn+F3 to switch between to the external monitor. LCD or CRT. The external monitor is set for 1024x768 or higher resolution and view is toggled back to the Notebook display, which supports up to 800x600. Improper backlight or display cable connections Restart the Notebook. 1. Check the display cable connections and retest. 2. Replace the display assembly. Defective inverter board.
