Examining the Nozzle Check Pattern Examine the nozzle check pattern you print. Each colored square should be solid, with no gaps or lines, as shown: I If your printout looks okay, you're done. I If you see any white lines or gaps, clean the print head again; see page 28 for instructions. Replacing an Ink Cartridge When the red b light flashes, an ink cartridge is low on ink. (You may also see a message on your screen.) This is a good time to make sure you have a new cartridge. When the red b light stays on, you need to replace one of the cartridges. Note: The red b error light also comes on if your paper runs out or is jammed, so make sure you check your paper before replacing a cartridge. When a cartridge is more than six months old, you may need to replace it if printouts don't look their best. If the quality doesn't improve after cleaning and aligning the print head, you can replace the cartridge even if the red b light is off. Checking the Ink Supply Windows: Double-click the icon in the your taskbar.
