Select from several easy-to-use learning libraries. www.gateway.com/training Safety guidelines Warning To avoid bodily injury, do not attempt to troubleshoot your server problem if: - The power cords or plugs are damaged - Liquid has been spilled into your server - Your server was dropped - The case was damaged Instead, unplug your server and contact a qualified computer technician. While troubleshooting your server, follow these safety guidelines: • Never remove the top panel while your server is turned on and while the modem cable and the power cords are connected. • Do not attempt to open the monitor. To do so is extremely dangerous. Even if the power is disconnected, energy stored in the monitor components can be dangerous. Also, opening the monitor voids its warranty. • Make sure that you are grounded correctly before opening the server. For more information about preventing damage from static electricity, see "Preventing static electricity discharge" on page 28. • After you complete any maintenance task where you have to open the server case, make sure that you close the case and reconnect all cables before you restart your server. Error messages These messages often indicate procedural errors such as typing an incorrect keystroke or trying to save a file to a write-protected diskette. Some messages, however, may indicate a problem that requires further troubleshooting. Memory messages Gate20 Error The BIOS is unable to correctly control the system board's Gate A20 function, which controls access of memory over 1 MB. This may indicate a problem with the system board. Boot messages Boot Failure ... This is a generic message indicating the BIOS could not boot from a particular device. This message is usually followed by other information concerning the device. Invalid Boot Diskette A diskette was found in the drive, but it is not configured as a bootable diskette. 65

Safety guidelines
While troubleshooting your server, follow these safety guidelines:
Never remove the top panel while your server is turned on and while the modem cable
and the power cords are connected.
Do not attempt to open the monitor. To do so is extremely dangerous. Even if the power
is disconnected, energy stored in the monitor components can be dangerous. Also, opening
the monitor voids its warranty.
Make sure that you are grounded correctly before opening the server. For more information

Error messages

Memory messages
Gate20 Error
The BIOS is unable to correctly control the system board’s Gate A20 function, which controls access
of memory over 1 MB. This may indicate a problem with the system board.
Boot messages
