Cleaning the pickup roller If you want to clean the pickup roller rather than replace it, follow the instructions below: 1. Remove the pickup roller as described in steps 1 through 5 of Changing the pickup roller. 2. Dab a lint-free cloth in isopropyl alcohol, and scrub the roller. WARNING! Alcohol is flammable. Keep the alcohol and cloth away from an open flame. Before you close the printer and plug in the power cord, allow the alcohol to dry completely. 3. Using a dry, lint-free cloth, wipe the pickup roller to remove loosened dirt. 4. Allow the pickup roller to dry completely before you reinstall it in the printer (see Changing the pickup roller). NOTE In certain areas of California, air pollution control regulations restrict the use of liquid Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) as a cleaning agent. In those areas of California, please disregard the previous recommendations and use a dry, lint-free cloth. The cloth may be moistened with water if desired. 48 Chapter 3 Maintenance ENWW

Cleaning the pickup roller
