USING, COPYING & CREATING APLETS Before you read this chapter, you should be reasonably familiar with the majority of the built-in aplets. As has been discussed before, the designers of this calculator provided a set of standard aplets for you to use, changing the capabilities of the calculator as you change aplet. These standard aplets will cover most, if not all, of your requirements but to a certain extent you can also modify them to suit your needs and copy them for your friends. No programming is generally required and, unless you want to learn about the programming language of the hp 39g+, there is no reason to worry about it. As well as making small modifications to the standard aplets, you can download additional aplets written by people who do enjoy programming. These aplets come via the Internet, but you may be able to obtain them from your teacher, from other hp 39g+ users, or from a PC or Mac onto which they have been copied. Once aplets have been copied from the Internet (onto a PC or Mac) the software and cable provided with your hp 39g+ can be used to download the aplets to the hp 39g+. Calculator Tip Aplets which were written for the hp 38g or stored from an hp 38g are not compatible with the hp 39g, hp 40g or hp 39g+. On the other hand, aplets are freely interchangeable between any of the hp 39g, hp 40g and hp 39g+. A free utility is available which will convert hp 38g aplets into hp 39g+ aplets. Many of the aplets on web sites are available in both formats but far more are available for the hp 39g+. The information which follows is discussed in the following order... • creating a copy of a standard aplet • copying from hp 39g+ to hp 39g+ via the infra-red link. • downloading from the Internet using the Connectivity Kit. • saving notes, aplets and sketches via the Connectivity Kit. • capturing screens using the Connectivity Kit. • editing Notes with the Aplet Development Kit.
